About Us

Sree Ganga for Rural Development Society

NGOs play a vital role in supporting vulnerable communities by promoting education, health, equality, and sustainable development, helping people improve their lives and build stronger societies.

Sree Ganga Rural Development Society (SGRDS) is a voluntary organization established in the year 2000 by a group of committed young professionals with experience in health, education, and social development sectors. For the past 28 years, SGRDS has been actively working in various rural areas of Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh. The organization conducts several development programs such as awareness camps on seasonal hostels, ATMA Millets initiatives, capacity building centers, Integrated Skill Development Scheme, NCLP Special Training Centers, environmental awareness programs, community health initiatives, women empowerment activities, skill-based and vocational training, and income generation programs to support rural communities.

To empower downtrodden and underprivileged communities by providing them with resources, opportunities, knowledge, and skills that enable them to improve their livelihoods and participate equally in mainstream society.



Programs

Millet Promotion and Nutrition Awareness Programme

We work for promoting millet cultivation and improving nutrition among rural and tribal communities in Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh. We create awareness about the health benefits of millets such as ragi, korra, and sama. We also educate farmers and families about including millets in daily diets and government schemes like the Public Distribution System and Mid-Day Meal Scheme. Our efforts support better nutrition, sustainable farming, and improved livelihoods.

Environmental Awareness and Sustainable Farming Programme

We work for supporting farmers in drought-prone areas of Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh, where irregular rainfall affects agriculture. We conduct awareness camps to promote low-investment crops and the use of bio-fertilizers and eco-friendly pesticides. We also organize environmental awareness activities in villages to encourage sustainable practices. As part of the programme, we promote tree plantation and distribute saplings to villagers. This initiative helps protect the environment and supports farmers’ livelihoods.

Cultural Awareness Programme

We focus on spreading awareness about social issues such as dowry, AIDS, and child labour through cultural activities in rural communities. Programs like dramas, mono acts, group dances, and songs help educate and engage villagers effectively. This programme was organized in Medapuram, Chennakothapalli Mandal, Satya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh, benefiting 100 participants.

Water Management Programme

We worked on creating awareness about water conservation and sustainable water management in Gooty, Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh. The programme promoted rainwater harvesting, check dams, tank development, and farm ponds to improve water availability. We educated communities using audio-visual methods and encouraged public participation in protecting water resources. Community irrigation groups and water user groups actively took part in the programme. A total of 125 beneficiaries were covered under this initiative.


Our Activities

First Aid and CPR Training Programme

We worked on providing First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training for staff and students of schools in Andhra Pradesh. The programme covered important aspects of emergency care and basic life-saving techniques. It was organized in Ramapuram, Bathalapalli Mandal, Satya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh. The training helped participants learn how to respond during medical emergencies. A total of 45 beneficiaries were covered under this programme.

ATMA Millets Programme

We implemented the ATMA Millets Programme with the support of the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) in Chennakothapalli of Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh. The programme aimed to revive cost-effective and sustainable millet cultivation among rural and tribal communities. A total of 482 beneficiaries were covered under this initiative. We conducted awareness and training programs to encourage farmers to cultivate millets and improve food and nutritional security. Tribal communities were also informed about the inclusion of millets in the Public Distribution System (PDS).

AIDS Awareness Programme

We organized an AIDS Awareness Programme on 15 June 2024 in Bathalapalli, Satya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh. The programme aimed to create awareness about HIV/AIDS and its impact on health and society. Awareness camps were conducted using visual aids to help people understand prevention and safety measures. Special sessions were held for youth, lorry drivers, and truck drivers to spread awareness. A total of **286 beneficiaries** participated in this programme.

Computer Training for Minorities

We organized a computer training programme for minority girls in Guntakal, Anantapur District, Andhra Pradesh. The programme focused on students studying in 10th standard and Intermediate. Through this initiative, girls were trained in basic computer skills to improve their knowledge and future opportunities. After completing the training, participants were provided with certificates. A total of 125 beneficiaries were covered under this programme.

Adult Education Programme

We organized an Adult Education Programme in Malyavantham, Bathalapalli Mandal, Satya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh. The programme aimed to support illiterate adults who missed the opportunity for education during childhood. Through specially designed learning methods, we helped adults learn basic reading and writing skills. A total of 62 beneficiaries participated in the programme. This initiative helped improve literacy and confidence among adults in rural communities.

Awareness and Formation of SHGs

We organized an awareness programme on the formation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Dharmavaram, Satya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh. SHGs consist of 10–15 members from low-income communities who come together to save small amounts regularly. The pooled savings are used to provide small loans to members at a nominal interest rate of 3%. This initiative helps members improve financial stability and support each other. A total of 985 beneficiaries participated in this programme.
